Physical activity engagement, memory function, and hippocampal volume in adults with down syndrome

چکیده
Background Higher engagement in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA) is related to better cognitive functioning neurotypical adults; however, little known about the impact of PA on aging adults with Down syndrome (DS). Individuals DS have three copies chromosome 21, which includes gene for amyloid precursor protein, resulting an increased risk for/earlier onset Alzheimer’s disease. The goal this study was understand relationship between moderate and memory non-demented DS. Method Adults participated ancillary Lifestyle linked Biomarkers Consortium Syndrome (N = 54). Participants completed Cued Recall Test (CRT) measure episodic memory. total free + cued CRT score used analyses. wore a wrist-worn accelerometer (GT9X) 7 days PA. Moderate classified using Freedson cutpoints ActiLife software defined as daily average minutes. Structural MRI data were acquired within 18 months actigraphy/cognitive collection. Hippocampal volume extracted Freesurfer v5.3. Associations engagement, memory, hippocampal evaluated hierarchical linear regressions controlling relevant covariates (age, body mass index (BMI), intracranial (ICV)). Result 37.81 years old (SD 8.15 years) 55.6% female. They spent ∼10.67% their time engaged 7.48%). recalled 32.09 items 6.09, range 7-36). After age BMI, greater associated higher recall (b 0.279, p 0.044). ICV, not significantly (p 0.48). Greater after ICV 0.496, 0.004). Conclusion A proportion engaging function While performance, it engagement. may be promising lifestyle behavior preserve

Vocal Parameters of Adults with Down Syndrome in Zahedan /Iran
Background & Aims: Previous studies have indicated significant differences in vocal parameters between children with Down syndrome and normal children, but there are challenges about these differences. In this study vocal parameters and Maximum Phonation Time (MPT) in adults with Down syndrome have been investigated. Method: This cross-sectional and analytic study was performed on 22 adults wit...
متن کاملThe Study of Physical Fitness and Health-related physical activity Programs in individuals with Down Syndrome: Systematic Review
Objective: Down syndrome is the most common genetic intellectual disability conditions in 1 out of 800 to1000 live births. Adolescents and Youth with Down syndrome are unique population on factors health-related physical activity. Methods: To investigate the factors of physical fitness and physical activity in adolescents and Youth with Down syndrome the used of international and national data...
متن کاملPhysical Activity and Body Composition Relate to Cardiorespiratory Fitness Independently in Young Adults with Down Syndrome
BACKGROUND: Persons with Down syndrome (DS) typically possess low cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), engage in low levels of physical activity (PA), and display elevated obesity levels, but the association between these variables is not clear in persons with DS. METHOD: We investigated the relationships among measures of CRF, PA, and body composition in 30 young adults with DS (age: 21.3 ± 5.5 ye...
متن کاملPhysical activity and walking onset in infants with Down syndrome.
Infants with Down syndrome (DS) are described as being less active and they also experience significant delays in motor development. It is hypothesized that early infant physical activity may be influential for the acquisition of independent walking. Physical activity was monitored longitudinally in 30 infants with DS starting at an average age of 10 months participating in a treadmill training...
متن کاملPhysical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness in adolescents with Down syndrome.
AIMS To determine if adolescents with and without Down syndrome (DS) accomplish the physical activity (PA) guidelines and to evaluate relationships between PA and cardiorespiratory variables. METHODS 42 adolescents (27 with DS) participated in this study. PA was measured using accelerometers. Walking-graded treadmill protocol with a breath-by-breath gas analyzer was employed to assess cardior...
